An honour killing, falsely reported as an accident.

The murder, met with no justice.



On the date of 21st August, 2024, Kathirvel’s(age 19) sudden death shook the place of Perungachi, Sholingur taluk, Ranipet district. Kathirvel’s death dates back to his relationship with a girl of the Backward Classes(BC), while he belonged to the Scheduled Caste(SC). He was called by her, on the night of 20th August, 2024, with the intent of meeting him. He was later missing and was actively searched for, by the people of his village.

His body was later retrieved on the dawn of 21st August, 2024, from a well, near the girl’s house.

His death, a case of honour killing, has not been met with proper enquiry or investigation and has been reported as an “accidental death” by the newspapers. His kin and villagers’ request for investigation and probe into his untimely and suspicious death, encountered ignorance from the government officials and police force.

The police have, however, provided protection to the perpetrators and safeguarded and, in turn, failed the oppressed by not providing them timely justice. The heavy hearts of Kathirvel’s family await equity and fainess, as they send off his body. Protests continue from the villager’s side as they fight for their rights and try to guarantee that their safety is ensured.
