Is caste still considered, these days?

From a tea stall to a graveyard, the discrimination goes on.

In the streets of Mothakkal village, Thiruvannamalai, roads to the graveyard were blocked by the caste oppressors. The body of a deceased person was returned back to the colony and when questioned by the people, about the disrespect caused to them, they were met with attacks from the police’s side. The police have failed to provide the colony with protection and instead supported the other villagers who had blocked the pathway to the graveyard.

The discrimination does not stop there, it continues to public spaces like tea stalls, hotels, schools, salons etc.

The people of the oppressed caste are provided with paper cups for drinking tea, while the so-called higher caste people are given glass tumblers. Also, they are made to pay excess money for the same amount of food. This continues to the salons where they’re not allowed to cut their hair. The holders of the “Family Card” are not provided their rightful monetary benefits.

The discrimination seeps into schools, where topics of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar are ignored, the students belonging to the oppressed castes are beaten for questioning about installing a picture of Ambedkar. A student’s environment of a proper educational institution is shattered due to the caste hierarchy when their needs are abstained, they are discriminated and punished.

The people’s needs for the maintenance of their locality, employment opportunities, better educational facilities and upgradation of livelihood are unmet throughout the years.

The people of the colony expect help from the ruling government, only for them to be in vain. They blame their Caste for their oppression and are deeply saddened by the discrimination that occurs to them.
