The murder in Paranji

A violent attack by casteists.

On a brutal evening, Robert alias Rajkumar, a lorry driver by occupation, was murdered in cold blood by casteist oppressors. He was accompanied by his sons and wife, who were also subject to torture and violence. The perpetrators include – Haridas, Sathya, Velusaamy and Narayanasaamy along with many others.

The incident occurred near Vedal, while Robert and his family, where on the way to the hospital. A car had hit them while it travelled on the wrong side of the road, with no indicator lights. When questioned by the sons of Robert, on why they were on the wrong side of the road, they were thrashed by the wrong doers who further called up their fellow people.

After knowing that Robert and his family belonged to the village of Paranji, Arakonam, which housed people belonging to the Paraiyar caste, he was violently beaten to death, while his wife, poonkudi, sustained grave injuries to her shoulder. One of his sons has luckily escaped from the violence, whereas the two others were beaten up and also subjected to “Police brutality”.

On the following days, there were protests held by the people of Paranji as a fight for justice, for the death of Robert, and the violence imposed on his family. However, there was no investigation of support from the administration or police on this issue. Even the police who had gone to the Arakkonam Government Hospital to inquire about the same to Robert’s family, had provided little to no support to them and did not even address their problem with empathy.

They await justice, without bias and required compensation and relief to their family after this adverse incident.
